It Starts With Understanding!

The quest to engage children in our sport as early as possible means that today’s teaching professionals need to be equipped with a completely new set of skills.

It used to be that we only needed to understand the technical and tactical issues of the game, but to work effectively with the under 5s age group we need to understand how under 5s learn, how their capabilities and bodies change, and how they develop as people, making gradual sense of the world around them. What can they do? How do they behave? How do they think? We have to remember that under 5s will differ depending on how their bodies are developing, their personal experiences and family make up.

To understand that if a child has attended nursery or childcare from a very young age, they are more likely to be used to following instructions and interact with other children a little better than a child who has not yet experienced this.

Much More Than Tennis!

In our programs we don’t just develop tennis and fundamental movement skills! Using a story telling approach that fully engages children in the lesson, we also include key skills around literacy, numeracy, health, and social development.

Parents and children are together on court, learning to play together and enabling our trained coaches to help parents understand better what is being taught and how their child is progressing. By doing the activities together under the direction and support of the coach parents and children can play together between lessons, rapidly developing key athletic and tennis skills.

Taking Tennis Home!

After each lesson children are rewarded for their achievements and take the lesson plan away as a coloring sheet and bedtime story. This reinforces the message and allows children to get more deeply engaged in the game.
